1. Agronomy, Dairy Foods, and Meats CDE Important Information

The University of Illinois is pleased to welcome you this Saturday, December 10th. Registration and all events will start in the Stock Pavilion. Onsite registration opens at 8:30 A.M. Parking is mostly free on the weekend, however please read the meter or lot sign/park spot sign to confirm it is not enforced or reserved 24/7. Once each CDE concludes participants can return to the Stock Pavilion for pick up. Please confirm your job assignment at registration and report in a timely manner so that these events run smoothly. We will start all three events at 10:00 A.M., so please plan appropriately.

  1. Agronomy CDE. Please have the participants sit in the designated area of the Stock Pavilion by belt card. After a short welcome from the department, groups will walk to Turner Hall. It is supposed be approximately 20 degrees, so dress appropriately for a 5 minute walk. All participants will need a pencil and clipboard.
  2. Dairy Foods CDE. Due to construction this event will be held in the Stock Pavilion. Please have your participants sit with their team in the designated area to facilitate the team problem. Milk samples will not be split into two classes, however time has been extended to facilitate scoring. Layout will be different so please pay attention to the map and rotation. It is likely to be chilly in the building due to colder temperatures so please dress appropriately. All participants will need a pencil and clipboard.
  3. Meats CDE. Please have the participants sit in the designated area of the Stock Pavilion by team to prepare for the team problem. Groups will walk to the Meat Science Laboratory so please dress appropriately. ALL participants, teachers, and volunteers are required to wear a hairnet and frock in order to enter the Meat Science Laboratory. Please assist us in observing and enforcing this policy. You can purchase disposable frocks and hairnets from Uline and a small quantity will be available for purchase at registration. All participants will need a pencil and hairnet.


2. Agricultural Communications. Creating a Marketing Campaign and Media Plan – New Item

This brand new unit provides an overview of persuasive communication and how to develop a strategic marketing plan. It is designed to teach students about agricultural communications and help prepare for the ag communications CDE.

Topics include:

  • Persuasive communication
  • The communication model
  • Integrated marketing communications
  • The persuasive communication process
  • Developing a strategic plan

Appendices include information on how to write a press release, following Associated Press style, and a brief overview of principles of design. A glossary of terms is also provided.

3. Holiday Schedule & Shipments

Our main office, customer service, and shipment division will be closing for the Christmas and New Year’s Holiday beginning at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 22nd. Orders will be held from shipment to school addresses beginning at the close of business on Monday, December 19th. This is being done to prevent deliveries during the school holiday break. Normal operations will resume and held shipments will be sent on Tuesday, January 3rd.
