JJC GAST Internship Program for students interested in AgEd

Joliet Junior College Announces (GAST) Agriculture Education Internship for 2016-17

 

The Illinois State Board of Education will again be funding grants for Agricultural Science Teacher Education (GAST) during the 2016-17 fiscal year.  As a part of this initiative, the Joliet Junior College Agriculture Department will again offer a 1 credit hour PAID internship for high school juniors and seniors with a sincere interest in exploring a career teaching agriculture.  The internship will allow students to work with you in performing various classroom, FFA and related activities and duties.  The Agriculture Education Intern will be compensated by this grant at the rate of $8/hour for up to 80 hours of internship experience between November 14, 2016 and May 1, 2017. (pending ISBE Funding)

 

TEACHERS: Please e-mail Bill Johnson (bjohnson@jjc.edu) to request a “Memorandum of Understanding” to nominate your student for the GAST Internship.  By nominating this student, you are verifying that this individual has expressed a sincere interest in exploring Agriculture Education as a career.  Return the form by mail or e-mail to William Johnson, Agriculture Department, 1215 Houbolt Rd. Joliet, IL 60431, e-mail to bjohnson@jjc.edu or FAX to 815/280-6650.  This form should be returned as soon as possible but must be returned by MONDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2016 for the student to qualify for credit and compensation.  Please share the following information with your student intern.

 

AGRICULTURE STUDENTS: To participate in this internship and receive compensation, you must be enrolled in AGRI 299 – Agriculture Education Internship which is a one credit class at Joliet Junior College during the SPRING, 2017 semester.  The tuition and Fees for this class are $125.00 which you must pay to receive credit and compensation.  We will enroll you in the class in January, 2017.  To be enrolled in the class, you must be enrolled as a student at Joliet Junior College.  To complete JJC’s free on-line application go to:  https://www.jjc.edu/admissions/pages/application.aspx and be sure to enter the curriculum MAJOR “Agriculture Education” under the Associate of Arts Degree menu.  You will be billed for the $125.00 tuition and fees by mail in January and should return the payment as soon as possible after you receive the bill.   Failure to complete the enrollment process described above will result in NO CREDIT and NO COMPENSATION at the completion of the internship.  Questions or problems regarding the enrollment process should be directed to William Johnson, 815/280-2273 or bjohnson@jjc.edu          TO RECEIVE CREDIT AND COMPENSATION, YOU MUST RETURN THE WEEKLY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE REPORT FORM EACH WEEK TO Jeff Landers, the official instructor for the AGRI 299 class and internship.  His contact information is on the weekly report form your teacher will receive.  This WEEKLY INTERNSHIP REPORT FORM can be completed electronically and e-mailed to jlanders@jjc.edu.
