Section 8 Horticulture CDE Details

Friday, March 10, 2017

Posted on behalf of Colby Gregg at Naperville Central

Hello fellow section 8 teachers!

I’m writing from the section 8 Floriculture CDE, to begin thinking about section 8 Hort CDE!

There is a change of location for this contest – it will now be held at Naperville Central High School, with further directions for arrival and a map to follow the week before the contest. The Date [4/19] and Time [4:00 Registration, 4:15 start] remain the same.

The contest itself will be based on (and a little bit smaller than) the state hort contest:

  • 1 Floriculture Practicum (to be decided, and emailed out at a later date).
  • 1 Landscape Practicum* (Landscape Tool ID)
  • 6 Judging Rings*
  • 33 Plant Identification*
  • 33 Question General Knowledge Exam (Study Guide to be emailed out at a later date)

*Possible species/tools can be found in the state horticulture guidelines (attached to this email).

Currently, I’d request a reply if you:

1)Are tentatively planning to attend (not set in stone, would just like to know what to expect ),

2)Have any ID plants that you would be able/willing to bring, and/or

3)Would be able/willing to provide any potential judging rings – 4 samples of the same species.

Please email me with numbers and species if any of the above apply.

Happy Spring, and be there or be        !
