Extension Specialist, Pesticide Safety Education – Entomology

Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to prepare educational materials and conduct training clinics to support the Pesticide Safety Education Program for state licensing requirements.


  • Conduct training clinics to support the pesticide safety education program for state licensing requirements for both private and commercial applicators.
  • Provide leadership regarding identification and pest management of insect pests.
  • Develop educational programs and materials focused on the integrated pest management of ornamental horticultural insects in formats including group-based live teaching, web-based individualized learning, as well as training manuals, workbooks, and news articles.
  • Develop expertise in various areas of pesticide safety education.
  • Develop educational programming in the area of insect pests and their management.
  • Interact with state and federal regulatory personnel as needed.
  • Opportunities to teach university courses and conduct applied research exist.
  • Overnight travel is required during the PSEP training season.


Required: Bachelor’s degree in Entomology or related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Entomology or related field

Required: One year of experience in public speaking, writing, and development of educational materials.

Preferred: Experience with insect identification and pesticide application

Pesticide Applicator License is desirable but not required.

Knowledge of plant pests and their control using pesticides, and a working knowledge of pesticides and their proper use.

This is a 12-month, 100% academic professional position..

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
