Position           Special Education Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor

Description      Ray Graham Training Center High School, located in the west loop of Chicago, is seeking an AgriScience Teacher and FFA Advisor for the newly established Agriculture program. Ray Graham Training Center High School is dedicated to serving students with moderate to severe disabilities in a caring environment which is responsive to their individual needs, acknowledging each young adult as a life-long learner; enhance academic and personal outcomes for successful participation in a global environment.

Courses taught include Introduction to Agriculture and Plant & Animal Science. The students maintain hydroponic tower gardens, outdoor vegetable gardens, and chickens and rabbits. Principal Rebecca Parker is a former FFA Member and very excited for the opportunity to incorporate Ag Education and FFA into the school curriculum.

REQUIRED – Non Negotiable

• ISBE Type 09 in Agricultural Education, or an ISBE Type 34/35 in Agricultural Education/Horticulture (certificate must be in place prior to teaching)

• Minimum Bachelors Degree

• Minimum 2,000 hours to 8,000 hours (1-4 years full-time) of agriculture/horticulture industry work experience

 

PREFERRED:

• Prior teaching experience preferred

• Excellent planning, organization, written and verbal communication skills

• High-level problem solving skills

• Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

• Team and detail oriented

Position           Horticulture/Agriculture Teacher

Description                  CORRECTIONAL HORTICULTURE INSTRUCTOR AT ILLINOIS YOUTH CENTER ST. CHARLES

Full-time. 12 month, grant funded position. Located at Illinois Youth Center at St. Charles. Responsible for teaching courses and labs in the Horticulture Certificate Program. Extensive knowledge of plant propagation, pest and disease control on turf, garden, and ornamental plants required. HS diploma/GED required. Associate degree preferred. Position           Urban Agriculture Program Manager

Description         Gary Comer Youth Center and Gary Comer Charter School, located in Section 8, is seeking an Agriculture Education Department Program Manager to work with the Agriculture Program Teacher and FFA Advisor for their growing urban agriculture education program. The Urban Agriculture Manager will develop and implement year-round urban garden-based engaging and interactive educational programs for youth 6th- 12, for in school and out of school forums. The instructor will lead teens in employment programs, to include urban agriculture, landscaping and related green careers. This is a 12 month position and will join the Garden Manager (department chair) and existing Instructor to be a 3-teacher department. Facilities include a ¼ acre rooftop production garden, more than 1 acre of orchard and urban farm land, farmstand, and modern classroom facilities. Courses are a mixture of summer-term and school-year (including after school).

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background and interest in serving youth in urban areas through agricultural education. A strong background in agriculture and urban agriculture is highly encouraged. Successful candidate will implement the building of an FFA chapter to compliment the high-level classroom and SAE components which are already in place.

Physical Work Environment: Must be able to lift 25 to 40 pounds and work outdoors in all types of weather. The ability to use garden tools and equipment is needed. Exposure to all outdoor elements typical for garden and farming; wind heat, cold, insects and sun exposure. Contact with soil and planning materials will be constant.

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.
