Ag Literacy Coordinator Vacancy - Pike/Scott Counties

General: The Agriculture Literacy Coordinator is a regular part-time employee of the Pike County Farm Bureau. The Coordinator will comply with all policies and procedures governing the Pike CFB. Coordinator will report directly to and be administratively responsible to the Farm Bureau executive director. Wage is commensurate with education and experience.



  • Work with the Pike and Scott County’s Agriculture Literacy Council
  • Prepare, assemble, and evaluate lesson plans and packets
  • Organize and work with volunteers to make lesson presentations
  • Conduct volunteer and district teacher workshops and institutes
  • Recruit teachers to attend Summer Ag Institutes
  • Oversee, promote, and carryout the Ag-in-the-Classroom Kit program to all schools of the counties including promoting and making presentations about the Kits, scheduling use of the Kits, hand-delivering the Kits to teachers and restocking used supplies
  • Assist teachers and volunteers with setting up farm tours, field trips and other classroom special activities and provide related curriculum materials
  • Use a variety of methods to reach targeted audiences (field trips, demonstrations, presentations, media, newsletters, exhibits, contests, social media and other means).
  • Complete all required reports (travel, budget, monthly contact and grant)
  • Create an awareness of the value, the vastness and the diversity of the agricultural industry of Pike and Scott Counties
  • Complete other duties as assigned


  • One-year work experience
  • Bachelor degree
  • Agriculture background preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proficiency in social media and communications
  • Good organization habits
  • Driver’s License Required
  • Ability to perform record keeping and office/clerical tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50-pounds on a daily basis and stand for long periods of time
  • Duties for this position include travel (mostly in Pike and Scott counties)
  • Some work will require infrequent evenings and/or weekends
