Note, by request of teachers we have included the answers to the questions immediately following the questions.

Ag Legislative Day underscores industry importance.

  1.  Name the Illinois Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman.  (Napoleon Harris).
  2. Locate Harvey, Illinois on a map.  What is unique about the location of that city, given the Senate Ag Committee Chair is from that location.  (Harvey is located in South Suburban Cook County, many don’t think of Harvey and Cook County as agricultural)
  3. Senator Harris participates in a program called Adopt-A-Legislator in cooperation with Moultrie County (Central Illinois).   In this program he has established a relationship with farmers from that area and both have exchanged visits.    Explain why you feel this would be an important program.  (Answers will vary)
  4. FFA members spent the day visiting legislators, Streator FFA Chapter Treasurer Abby Skinner and State FFA Treasurer Chase Clausen related the importance of providing information to non-agricultural legislators.  What would you say to legislators about agriculture and education in Illinois?  (Answers will vary)
  5. While the title of the article shares the importance of the State Agriculture Legislative Day, the title could also be a thesis statement of an essay.  Using the words “Ag Legislative Day underscore industry importance”, incorporate this into a paragraph about agriculture and legislation.    (Answers will vary)
