MSPR Program Specialist - working with Youth/Collegiate Programs

At Illinois Farm Bureau, our MSPR Program Specialist contributes to the overall success of our collegiate and youth programs through a multi-faceted approach, including the coordination and management of special events and implementation of strategies which will successfully serve member cultivation, stewardship, and retention goals. This position also provides staff assistance and support for other Member Services and Public Relations Division activities.



  • Develops, directs and manages all aspects of development and implementation of the Illinois Farm Bureau and Affiliates Youth Education Committee, including committee meetings, Youth Conference, Heritage Program and Awards tour, Cooperative Activities Program and Awards tour, FFA Convention, IAVAT Conference, State 4-H Conference, 4-H Delegate recognition, Premier 20 Conference, 4-H-LCP and FFA Section Presidents awards. Represents IFB on Youth Education Committee. This includes marketing and communication, securing sponsors, recruiting participants and volunteers, and coordinating all aspects of event logistics in detail. 

  • Develops, directs and manages all functions of Collegiate Farm Bureau program. This includes marketing and communication with each chapter, securing sponsors, recruiting participants and volunteers, and coordinating all aspects of event logistics in detail on each campus. Works with each officer team and coordinates yearly officer training session. Implements an effective tracking system for alumni as well as coordinate expansion of collegiate chapters on other campuses. 

  • Manages, plans and executes the Collegiate Discussion Meet. 

  • Manages, plans and executes annual Master Showmanship contest at the Illinois State Fair. 

  • Works with County FBs to develop, maintain and escalate Collegiate and Youth programs. Develops new concepts to meet these objectives. 

  • Completes and manages Budgets for Youth (435). 

  • Represents IFB on various organizations/groups/committees: Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education (ILCAE) Board, Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization (PAS), FFA Alumni, FFA Foundation, Illinois Association Vocational Agriculture Teacher (IAVAT), Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE), and Illinois Cooperative Council (ICC).

  • Assistant Staff to the Membership ACTION Team. 

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and volunteer leadership. 

  • Serves as a spokesperson for special events to promote positive public and organization images.

  • Performs other related work as required or requested.  


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture.

  • Experience in developing programs, materials, tours, and conferences.

  • Experience in non-profit organization.

  • Self-starter who is well organized and results oriented.

  • Creative and able to conceive and aggressively pursue new program and fundraising opportunities.

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • An understanding of and appreciation for farming and the agricultural industry and familiarity with Farm Bureau organization.

  • Experience and excellent skills in written communication, presentations to groups, training.

  • Ability to work with volunteer leaders whose profession is agriculture.  

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically requires Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related area and at least 2 years of program experience OR,

  • Master’s degree and no experience OR,

  • At least 4 years of program experience. 

  • Established contacts in the agricultural industry.

  • Knowledge and experience in meetings, conference and program execution.

  • Effective written, presentation and communications skills.

  • Ability to manage development and implementation of innovative programs with multiple responsibilities including conferences, tours, projects, contests, and campaigns. 

  • Demonstrates ability to network effectively with agriculture, commodity, and related groups in building programs.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Social Media. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal Office Environment.

  • Work may extend beyond normal business hours as business needs dictate.

  • Able to lift 30 - 40 pounds.

  • Able to load, unload, and set up for special events. 

  • Ability to participate in physical activities is desirable.

  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Illinois and out of state, with multiple overnight obligations each year.
