University of Illinois Educational Publishing Unit Closure

Wednesday, January 09, 2019

Sent to all contacts

We are contacting you with an announcement about a very difficult decision that was recently made concerning ITCS Educational Publishing at the University of Illinois, which was intended to be a self-supporting unit housed in the College of ACES.  After several, consecutive years of providing publications, kits, record books, and other resources to the education community at a financial loss, the leadership of the College of ACES has decided that it can no longer afford to maintain this service.  As a result, this unit will immediately cease production of new products, reprints, and kits for distribution. We plan to sell the remaining inventory over the next 6 to 12 months, and to official close the unit within a year. Especially for those of you planning through the end of the current academic year and who have grant money committed to purchasing materials, the current inventory will be available while supplies last until the end of 2019.

Individuals within the ITCS Education Publishing unit will be transferred into positions in other units in the College of ACES. Marianne Stein and Heather Mathis will be integrated into the newly formed Office of Marketing Communications, and Nick Wherley will transition to the Office of Academic Programs. Nick will continue to provide some of the current education support services from his role in ITCS Education Publishing including all of the Career Development Events that he has hosted for Illinois FFA chapters.

We are in the process of framing how the college will continue to support and engage with the agricultural education community, IAVAT, Illinois FFA, FCAE, and other stakeholders as we move forward. We consider our relationship with you to be vital to our mission.  We will connect with you for discussion as the vision unfolds. We are grateful to all of you for the support and encouragement you have provided to us over the years, and look forward to creating a sustainable model that will strengthen our relationship, as well as our ability to create a vibrant workforce pipeline for agriculture and allied industries.

If you have recently placed an order, Nick ( will be contacting for discussion as needed. If you plan to place an order in the future, please do so through normal methods. You will be notified as to the availability of the requested item at the earliest possible convenience.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact us using the information provided below.

We appreciate our relationships with you, and look forward to continuing to work with all of you in the future.
