1.  Registration open for Cooperative Youth Conference, June 6-7

The 2019 Illinois Cooperative Council Youth Conference will be held June 6-7 on the campus of Western Illinois University in Macomb. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors are provided a unique opportunity to learn about the cooperative business model. Generous cooperatives from across the state provide sponsorships to offset housing and meal costs, allowing students to attend at no personal expense.

Students learn about the seven cooperative principles and benefits of a cooperative, as well as governance and operation. They also participate in a field trip to see cooperatives in action. Workshops are led by experienced cooperative employees who provide students with insight into the important qualities of all types of cooperatives. They also experience a taste of college life by staying in the dorms and relaxing at the student recreation center.

A registration form is available at and students should register by April 30. A $30 deposit is required and will be refunded when the student arrives at the conference. Teacher in-service training is provided for agriculture instructors who bring students to the conference.

The conference is coordinated by the Illinois Cooperative Council, and WIU’s School of Agriculture. The conference rotates between Southern Illinois University and WIU each year to allow students from across the state the opportunity to attend. More information about the Illinois Cooperative Council is available at
