1.  FFA Board Updates

Notable highlights from the Illinois FFA Board meeting, yesterday, April 8, 2019:

  • State FFA Degree Policy Clarification:  To fulfil the requirement of having 5 activities above the chapter level on the State FFA Degree, a student must have 5 different activities.   ie: A student may only count being involved in a livestock CDE one time or count only one attendance at the National FFA Convention.  Creed speaking at any level is Creed speaking and it counts as one.  Prepared and Creed in different years counts as two.  Further examples will be shared at in the Advisor's Guide.
  • Illinois FFA Inclusivity Statement:  Illinois FFA values the diverse perspectives of all members. The differences and similarities of each member are what bring growth and opportunities to our organization. We encourage all members to embrace this diversity that makes up our organization so that Illinois FFA may continue to grow and prosper. - Motion passed.

  • Align all Proficiency area Descriptions - Illinois Association FFA will align the state proficiency descriptions with the National descriptions, this does not eliminate the state areas.  - Motion passed

  • Electricity Proficiency Area - It was properly moved and seconded to merge Electrical Technology Proficiency area with Ag Mech Design and Fabrication and eliminate Electricity as a separate area, this will take place with the beginning of the 2019 year.  - Motion passed

  • All AET records beginning in 2019-2020 - It was properly moved and seconded to reconsider the motion that was made at the June 2018 FFA Board meeting stating that all record books in 2020-2021 would be using AET records.  The motion to reconsider passed.

    • It was further discussed that the motion made in June was not consistent with the April 2018 FFA Board meeting that stated beginning in 2019 - 2020 school year Proficiency judging would be done via AET application.

    • The motion was then made to amend the original motion to strike out 2020-2021 and replace with 2019-2020.   - Motion passed.

    • THEREFORE in 2019 - 2020 - ALL SAEs are to use AET and the Proficiency judging process will use an AET generated application at the District and State level, to be determined at the Section level.

2.  Two Proposed Constitutional Changes Voting on - 91st Illinois FFA Convention

The Illinois FFA Board is proposing to change beginning in 2019 - 2020 school year, FFA dues and rosters be due to the Illinois FFA Center by October 1.

The motion to vote on at the 91st Illinois FFA Convention would read as follows:  All annual state and national dues have been paid by October 1 to the Illinois Association and all additional members following October 1 are added to the roster prior to May 15.

  • This proposed change moves the current date from  November 1 to October 1.
  • This is in response of District concerns expressed from teachers that the FFA roster deadline should not conflict when teachers are preparing for, gone to or returning from the National FFA Convention.

The Illinois FFA Board discussed the Honorary State FFA Degree process and who many are awarded is determined.  Board members voted to get this clarified and added to the constitution.

The motion to vote on at the 91st Illinois FFA Convention would be adding language to Article V.  Section D.  Honorary Membership and would read as follows:  The Illinois Association shall present up to a maximum of 5% of the total number of members who will be awarded the State FFA Degree that year, the total number will not include the major state officer parents and those teachers that meet the requirements for the Honorary State FFA Degree.

  • For this year we are awarding 502 State FFA Degrees, 5% of that number will allow Illinois FFA to present up to 25 Honorary State FFA Degrees, not including the 10 parents of the major state officers or any teachers that qualify for the Honorary State FFA Degree.

3.  2019 List of Illinois FFA State Degree Recipients

4.  2019 Zoetis Industry Support Program - this means $$ for your program

Announcing the 2019 Zoetis Industry Support Program.  This is the long-standing, very popular program in which FFA chapters connect with local animal health supply stores and/or local veterinarians that sell Zoetis animal health products.  In establishing this connection, FFA chapters are then the beneficiaries of a percentage of sales of select Zoetis products sold between February 1 and April 30, 2019.  A percentage of sales statewide will go to each state FFA foundation too based on local chapter signups and payouts.

To sign up, local chapters should set up a meeting with their local animal health supply stores and/or veterinarians with the attached form filled out and then ask the store and/or veterinarian to finalize their enrollment at:http://programdetails.zoetisus.com/FFA/asp/FFA_ContributionForm.asp.  Enrollment must be completed by May 7th to qualify.  Eligible sales of Zoetis products dating back to February 1, 2019, will count towards the chapter support final sum.

Fine print/details:

Multiple chapters can be signed up with the same retailer to receive funds of qualifying Zoetis products* sales up to 1 % of total sales in the sales period, unrestricted funds, up to $2,500 on the sales of certain cattle and equine products.

* Zoetis cattle and equine product purchases, up to $250,000, excluding medicated feed additives, water solubles and services, are eligible for the Industry Support Program. Purchase by anyone other than beef, dairy and equine resellers will not be eligible for qualification or donation payment. Backorders are not eligible for donation qualification. Donation checks less than a minimum of $25 per chapter will not be processed. If more than one chapter is selected and the donated amount is less than $25 per chapter, the entire donation will be made to the first FFA chapter listed. The FFA check will be paid to the FFA chapter designated by the seller/retailer via a single check no later than Aug. 31, 2019. Zoetis reserves the right to modify or discontinue this program at any time and for any reason.
